It’s safe, it’s intimate and it involves a stimulant that promotes conversation; it’s the coffee date, and the first meeting of choice for eHarmony members from suburb to city. Our advice for coffee shop chic in a nutshell? Dress like you care without getting carried away.
Dark jeans and a stylish sweater or ruffled blouse are standard, but especially if you’re meeting in the evening, dress up your look with closed-toe heels or embellished flats. Accessorize with a bold pendant necklace, dramatic earrings or a woven scarf in a hue that makes your complexion glow. Stick to one or two distinctive elements that express your unique personality and save the man-eater stilettos and sequined top for a night on the town.

Along with your fabulous jeans, wear a sassy fitted sweater or tee with a scoop- or V-neck. An empire-waist tunic that’s fitted at the bust is attractive and comfy and offers extra coverage in the event your underwear decides to peek-a-boo from beneath your low-riders. Avoid anything dangly or loose that might get in the way, such as bangles that slide down your arm. Sneakers may be necessary, so make sure yours pass close inspection. Gaping holes, weird stains and odors of any kind will throw you off your game and are hard to live down.
