In 1993, Oklahoma City underwent a major redevelopment known as MAPS, or the Metropolitan Area Projects. As a result, a new baseball park was added, along with a library, a convention center, fairgrounds and a canal to the Bricktown Entertainment District. The project provided a much-needed shot of adrenaline to the city. Today, Oklahoma City is an exciting mecca for the arts. It’s also a great place to explore history or play in the great outdoors. As such, Oklahoma City has a plethora of exciting dating opportunities.
Here are some ideas:
1. Visit Bricktown
Relive Your Childhood at Bricktown Amusement: Bricktown Amusement is unique in that its rides change with the season. For example, during the summer, you can try the low-scare Haunted Dungeon Ride. Come fall, the ride takes on a Halloween theme and becomes an extreme-scare Haunted Dungeon Ride. During Christmas, ride with Santa through a winter wonderland.
2. Experience a Water Taxi!
Take a Water Taxi Across the Bricktown Canal: The 40-minute round-trip cruise features a narrator who points out sites along the way. Dinner and cocktail cruises are also available.
3. Chill with a Cowboy
Live in the Wild, Wild West: Spend an afternoon at the National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum.
4. Visit the Myriad Botanical Gardens
Explore the Language of Flowers: The 17-acre Myriad Botanical Gardens is home to the Crystal Bridge Tropical Conservatory, a tropical rain forest zone, a sculpture garden and more. This type of beauty spells “romance” in capital letters!
5. Talk to the Animals
Check out the animals at the Oklahoma City Zoo. Looking at furry animals has been proven to inspire the cuddle instinct.
6. Jazz up your Date
If you both enjoy listening to jazz, here’s a unique idea: spend an evening at the University of Central Oklahoma Jazz Lab. This venue features performances by students enrolled in the jazz studies program. Tickets are $7, which makes the Jazz Lab both a musical and affordable date.
7. Listen to the Words of the Bard
Got a summer date? Spend an evening at Oklahoma Shakespeare in the Park.
8. Have Dinner in a Haunted House
The Haunted House Restaurant on Miramar has a history of unsolved murders. It also has a reputation for being an excellent steak house. A bit of fright will inspire your date to reach for your hand. Some fine wine will lead to a mellow evening.
9. Space: The Final Frontier
Explore it together at Science Museum Oklahoma.
10. An Artful Dinner
Spend an afternoon at the Oklahoma City Museum of Art, and then enjoy French cuisine at the Museum Café.
