Speaking as a guy who is losing his hair, I'd like to hear from the ladies. Is bald sexy?

I'm lucky to have hair, actually... my dad went bald when he was 20. But I was talking with a friend of mine who is also balding, and we both agreed that when the time comes, the hair loss will be painful. Not physically painful, of course, but we have become attached to having hair. And yes, I am taking action against my androgenic alopecia.

No wonder the hair loss business is a 3.5 billion dollar industry!

And guys, feel free to chime in with what you decided to do with your hair loss, and if it affected your dating.

Absolutely!

In fact, I seem to have a tendency to be attracted to bald men--especially when it's getting thin enough that they shave it. Something about the shaving tells me this man hasn't just made lemonade out of lemons, he's thumbing his nose at the lemon tree.

It is painful when your appearance changes as a result of biology and you can do little about it--for me, the changes related to menopause were harder to take than simple aging alone. But a friend of mine set an example for me years ago--when her cancer treatment caused her to lose all her hair, she had t-shirts printed with a photo of her bald self and gave them to all of us.

If it is going to happen with or without your consent, maybe deciding what you're going to make out of it will take some of the sting out of the process.

My hair is thinning as well. It is so freakin hot in Texas that I shaved my head last summer. I was a test pilot and had to spend time in a hot hanger, hot airplane and my hair was always messed up anyway.

I loved having my head shaved but got the impression from most women I met that they didn't care for the look...maybe I'm wrong. I really hoped that wouldn't be the case but women I talked with (not dated) preferred some hair on a guy's head regardless of how thin it is...go figure...so I let it grow back out.

I had a friend once who preferred bald men; she said they reminded her of her father.

I like hair myself. I want to be able to put my hands in it! I might be able to do thinning. Don't like the tonsures. Shave it if that's how you lose it. And whatever else, don't shine Mt. Baldy!

But you do know balding is passed through the mother's genes? Take a look at your uncles on your mother's side. It's a testosterone thing, the more you have, the more you lose. So you could think of it as the "manly" thing, and strut your stuff!

My father still has a full head of hair, so does that mean that if I date a man with hair on his head, I have daddy issues too?

We have a great group of ladies here....but to be honest, the opinions you'll get from them aren't going to be reflective of women in general. The average woman does prefer a man with hair....but the lucky thing for us men is that looks are less important to women than they are to men. As IcecreamMoon said...if you're personality comes across as sexy then your being bald will come across as sexy.
