self-sufficiency ...

and yet ... my previous relationships were with self-sufficient people.

Devotion and/or generosity was the missing trait ... perhaps I should look for that next time heh.

I had a similar experience but about a small pocketbook that TSA in Miami was trying to get into. Under everyday circumstances, I would just mindless open it when I needed but could not remember how when requested for instruction by someone who was yelling. ok, I was also irritated cause I had to check my bags.... ahhh to relive this annoying experience... a friend asked me to accompany her while in her wheelchair to get early and therefore better seats on the plane. I didn't know she already had someone else lined up to do it, but knew she didn't usually use a wheelchair. I agreed thinking she had some special circumstance that I didn't know about... In casual conversation prior to agreeing I mentioned I no longer checked bags due to several instances of lost luggage. So we're going through security and get pulled over. The person originally asked was released from service by my friend and went through no problem. Me, not released, got to spend time with security about my handbag and then had to check my luggage. Argggggggh. I felt as if a child was being torn from my arms.Arrrggggh. Security finally got the bag opened, it's small, only holds a wallet (good for nites out), and allowed me through...arrrgggh.
I have baggage about baggage.

I think we expect people to be honest, kind, funny, gentle, and loving. When those we love end up not being like that it surprises us because we expected them, of all people, to be one above all others. That is why we have lists of must-haves, because we were betrayed and now must keep a keener eye on the next person. There's nothing wrong with that.

I guess I have a problem with the term "baggage." We all have bags of negatives and positives we tote along throughout our lives. I don't know why we feel we need to continually justify our feelings.

Can't we call it experience?

I hear ya. Mine went back to his. However, recently we got back in communication and I fear he may have a much more pronounced border line personality disorder than I originally thought. Maybe it's perspective, maybe he's a nutter, either way I'm glad it's her and not me that is stuck with him now! Let the biatch carry that baggage!
