Statgamer...

I fell for you quickly too! I think you are really great and kinda unique too (in a good way). Its not suprising someone could fall for you quickly.

I know what you are talking about. I think it has happened to us all. The phrase that comes to mind....(that I often fail at)

The guy is the gas...you are the brakes.

I think my brakes have failed on a number of occasions.

People with emotional extremes do not make good relationship partners.

Too eager emotionally probably means desperate and too needy.

Too cold means fear of intimacy and/or commitment.

So if you see the warning signs of either, communicate clearly what you want (slow down or warm up). If that doesn't stop the behavior, then move on.

Now the dynamic on hot and heavy then poof? This person is not really interested in building a LTR. They have this fantasy of instant love and rush to exclusivity and marriage. But then the reality of having a relationship is too scarey to them. It actually requires more than just a rush of emotions, it requires patience and caring and communication...and TIME. They don't really love you, they are in love with being in love.

How many such men have you dated recently?

Encountered 5 such men this year. One was a con man so he doesn't count. One spooked me so much that I pulled back immediately. Dated 3 who turned out like that. First one said L word at 2 weeks, second at 1 month, third at 1 month but had insinuated that he was sure I was "the one" within 2 weeks and told our friend that.

Like AD, and wittykitty, I actually had good potential with two of these men. The last one had been married before for 16 years and is an absolute gentleman and I really liked him.

When did the last guy divorce (or widowed?)? He could have been on the rebound and therefore in an emotionally unstable state. By the way, it is not you by all means who tends to attract such characters. Rather, these types of men or men in such unstable states go around a lot therefore a lot of us, women bump into them. THe men with stable emotions and a good relationship potential are usually in stable relationships...

Yesterday I reread the emails I exchanged with the guy on the rebound I encountered and found out the following: 1. he contacted me 2 weeks after I signed up to that dating site; 2. he said after his divorce his Hungarian improved a lot because he hung out with a lot of people who don't speak English at all. What eluded me at the time was that these "people" were all women ! Perhaps if you go back and reread their emails you would be able to see these things coming (at least in retrospect)?

For the ladies who say the guys who fall in love early are usually the ones who go poof, about how soon into the relationship did they say "I love you."?

From a guy's perspective, I agree totally.

I've made a similar observation about the pool of women I encounter. I'll go out on a limb here and say that I'm the stable type of male.I neverreallypursueda relationship though, since I was raising kids during most of the time I've been divorced and just too busy. For the most part, though, the singlepeople (male and female) that make the roundsseem to be the less stable type. Kind of makes you think twice about looking for a relationship.
