I am asking for a female friend of mine. She wants to join eH and says she is a vibrant 56 year old, she does like to be with men who are2 year younger to 4 years older but wants to know what the REAL MEN are looking for.

Sooooooo Gentlemen, What age range do you look for? Please be honest as we are going to tally the answers for her.

Ladies, your feedback is welcome also.

I will be following this one with interest as I am a 56-year old as well with no luck so far in the 7 years I have been single. I have the impression men my age are looking for women in the 38-45 years old bracket.

I'm 45 and I get most of my matches from men who are over 50 (my cut off is 55 and I just keep the option open if its' a really great guy from the profile/pictures). I get very few men in the 40's range. I guess the guys in their 40's want someone whos 25-35 just like the men who are 55 want someone 38-45. And they wonder why they never meet someone really special.

Not sure if my opinion helps, as I am 36. I’m not currently using matching, but if I did I think I would set it for 25 – 40, and focus on the late 20’s to mid 30’s.

I'm also younger than the age referred to in the original post. But for me, at age 43, as I'd still like to have children I tend to actively look for women younger than myself who wouldn't have a problem having a child a few years from now (after meeting, dating, marriage etc.). If I didn't want to have a child I'd probably extend my age range upward into the mid to high 40s.

Regarding age criteria, I don't think there's any way around the fact that age and health are part of physical attractiveness. And, as we get older we generally become less physicallyhealthy and attractive. I think it's just part of the reality of the aging process. While most of us value a number of qualities other than the physical in potential partners I think the criteria of physical health and attractivenesswill alwayshave some influence.

Typically men prefer women their age to maybe 10 years younger while women go from their age to maybe 10 years older. This is sort of a broad general rule and each person has his or her preferences.

Your lady friend should not have a problem as it is not so much about age as it is what she can bring to the table and what she does not bring.

As a 56 year old guy I have a preference for girls younger than myself. I have a reason for this other than that I am looking for a trophy wife or that I am a horndog. Over the past year I have dated girls of various ages. A 40 year old had parents that were only 5 years older than I, this was a little freaky. While a 54 year old had school age children that would still be at home for another 4 to 5 years, this is a bit of a problem with where I want to go in my life.

By the way you say this I suspect that you are a widow. You can read other threads on the problems of widows and with widows.

If you are looking for marriage minded ladies, after meeting the ones I have and read from the girls that post here, I would suggest that you set your sights on the mid 20s.

Just going on past experience, I get a lot of winks, icebreakers, etc. from the late 30's to late 40's guys. I am 33 and much more interested in guys my own age to 5 or 6 years younger.
