I can't say nervous describes it. I am not nervous. I just feel it is creepy and strange to call someone I don't know at all in this context.

If I knew him, I wouldn't hesitate to call. It's not as if I've never asked someone out before ...

We all talk to random strangers and it is a little odd talking to one by phone, but hopefully you've learned enough through email to relieve the creepiness factor. Good luck!
