This article is actually pretty lame. I wonder who eharmony is hiring to write these? Some of it is okay....for general ideas but I'd really hate to be the person that told travellers the temperature range is between 18 - 84 degrees......thats just not nice. Nice job looking up averages .....but lets get real. More like -15 to 105. and don't forget the possibility of horizontal snow.

also...what is with the gyms? Are people supposed to go to gyms on a date? Did they only have 9 things to write about and had to throw in one more?

ps. don't strike up a convo with people on the el reading books ....your friend CP30. Chicagoans are not that friendly, especially on public transportation, but nice try. Nice way to throw in that "red eye"

Pilsen is the first suggestion? I'd think my date was crazy if that was his first suggestion.

Second City is a good suggesiton, as is all the possibile music venues, though its hard to talk there.

I'd suggest the bar at the top of the Hancock building....great place fora first date, or any date...not dinner but drinks. Its free, great view and awesome atmosphere. Though perhaps too "touristy" sounding for this trying to be edgy article....

oops...sorry eharmony really I like you.

I think it would be nice to put tips on where to meet good people the 'old fashioned' way in Chicago. Although being an online dating site, that may not fly too well! But seriously, where do the healthy minded, healthy lifestyle, confident men go to meet women? Not the speed-dating events, not the 'singles' events (I've been to them all and so far, no good.. no offense as there are some really nice people, just not for me!). Sports events are fun, but there's usually tons (too much) alcohol involved - or the men there are just not 'available'. I am an independent, confident, funny, athletic, 38 y/o attractive woman (who barely looks 30, so I'm told) having a helluva time meeting Mr Right. What I am doing has not been working, so other than E-Harmony , what's the best approach?

I don't know if the people who wrote this list have ever lived in Chicago(by that I mean the actual city of Chicago not the 'burbs)because you are way off about Lincoln Park and some of the other neighborhoods you spoke about.

Lincoln Park is expensive in real estate but not always when it comes to restaurants and culture. There are plenty of cheap eats places in LP and Lakeview. Sushi Para II, The Pasta Bowl, Cafe Emilio's Tapas just to name a few. Lots of places in these areas have live musice, plus you have the Vic Theatre, the Music Box and several other places that can be cheap dates...and let's not forget the LP Zoo.

Also, one of the biggest singles scenes and places to meet other singles are the NUMEROUS street festivals that happen every weekend from late May to Early September. Food, live music and tons of singles in evey age group. Lakeview Mayfest, Rock Around the Block, German Maifest, etc. They are in every neighborhood on every weekend in the summer.

If you are a sports fan and went to a college with a DI football or basketball team, find out what bar is your "team bar." Every Big Ten school and tons of others(Texas, Nebraska, Colorado, ND, etc)along with several pro teams have a bar where their fans hang out. I've met several male and female friends at my teams bars.

My final bit of advice would be to check out Metromix.com. The best site to find out what's going on in Chicago....free, cheap or expensive.

If anyone has any questions in this regard, don't hesitate to respond.

PS: Margies Candies does ROCK.

I've traveled to Chicago a few times, and for those of you who like the blues, check out Kingston Mines. It's the number one blues club in Chicago!

I've had a blast both times I've been there.

No one strolls through Jeffereson park that would take anyone about 5 minutes...The lakefront and millineum park is a good place to go and always cheap eats around there..as far as the sports teams go I prefer a wolves game in rosemont its more relaxed and not as crowded as the United center or expensive plus there are quite a few bars around the allstate arena too
