Hiya,

I get matched with lots of tall woman who tend to close me (I'm 5'8"). I'mfine with that - certainly understand.

I prefer woman about 5'5" and under, but the majority of my matches are within an inch or two of my height. Does eharmony try to match people with folks their own height, or does it assume men like woman a bit shorter than themselves and the opposite for woman?

PS - one of those who opened communication with me was tall, and I was intrigued (she was lovely), but lived 600 miles away I wouldn't rule out someone a bit taller than myself (I dated one taller girl when younger, and it was great!), but I would prefer to get more physically compatible matches, as getting closed with 'other' by 5'10" woman gets kind ofannoying after a while.

I don't know if/how they consider height, I just know that you can't set any sort of height preference.

I'm talking about the flex match option:

How important is your match's height to you?

I have it set to somewhat important (a little above), but I don't know if that means the engine's trying harder to match me with 5'8" woman or the opposite.

Ohhhh, that. Yeah, I assume it searches for matches that have heights close to your own, but I don't know for certain.

If you set the height question to be the highest Very Important then you will only be matched to girls that are 5'8" or maybe +/- 1". As you set the importance less and less important the height difference goes exponencially from your height in both directions.

I disagree with this observation, especially the "exponentially" theory. Some even say the wire isn't connected to anything. I know many people would love an official explanation.

Ok, this post made me cycle back to my EH preferences, since I am 5'3" and know the height range of my matches.

Now I am not sure the what the hieghtpreference means, as I have height checked as somewhat important +1 (just right of center) and I get matches who are 5'6" all the way to 6'3". Just wondering what would happen if I said unimportant... Giants and lilliputians?

As for the exponential part. If you set the importance at the most Very Important you get say +/- 1 inch. If you go down one step you don't get +/- 2 inches it is more like +/- 4 inches. If you go down another step it is more like +/- 7 inches.

I have my setting right in the middle and am getting matches that are as much as 8" taller, like that is going to work. I am a guy I don't wear heals. But I figure that if I set the importance more important then I will be missing girls who would be 6" shorter.

I have to disagree. I am tall and I have my setting to 'very important' and I still get short guys. I don't think they even look at this setting.

As it should be.

Until they give us guys an option to select "Body Types", there should be no option to set "Height" requirements either.
