Thomas Sowell : A Rookie President - Townhall.com

See article for a blog on O as the rookie president. I compare him to a high school freshman who was elected to senior class president. Certainly, anyone who claims "volunteer work" as experience for a job, has no experience for that job. Heck, that doesn't work for ANYONE.

Except Obama, when he runs for President of the US. "My days as a community volunteer..." creating slums in the Chicago suburbs...

And I've said this same thing since the first day O took office, and called the Palestinians FIRST, and then granted his first interview to the Arabs:

QQQ From the inserted article
However much Barack Obama has proclaimed his support for Israel, his first phone call as President of the United States was to Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, to whom he has given hundreds of millions of dollars, which can buy a lot of rockets to fire into Israel.
QQQ

Rookie, freshman, call him what you want, but he's already messing up BIGTIME, and he started with that first call to the Palestians, followed it up with an interview, and then sent a lovey-dovey txt to the Iranians xoxoxo, let's be nice and hug.

Dop't believe me? Still have faith that he knows what the fark he's talking about, that he's not a delusional idealist inexperienced freshman senator with no practical experience?

Ok, tell me then: What the heck are we going to do with those prisoners in Gitmo, the ones his own party doesn't want to deal with?

He's the Man Without a Plan, but he's the most well-spoken idiot this nation has ever elected.

Somehow, if you oppose him, you just don't know all the facts, you're not as smart as he is -- he's even telling his OWN party that about Gitmo!

"They're not dangerous, come on, yall! xoxoxo."

My nephew, 13, going on HS freshman next year, says that all the time to my bro. "Come on, Dad, you just don't know what you're talking about."

Oh, yeah?

Saul,

Let's try to make this thread productive...for all of Obama's shortcomings (as seen through your eyes), what would McCain have done to address all of the relevant examples you've mentioned? And why do you think it would have been better for this country?

Saul - this is just my opinion, but I would like to state for the record that I don't care who Obama gave an interview to. I think we've seen quite a number of posts on that subject already.

Just wanted to get that off my chest.

What really got me was that with all the problems this country has the very first thing he did was close Gitmo, something that affects nobody except the prisoners there. He needed his opening gesture to be to the american people if he really is for change.

I can sympathize with the man though. I don't think he really understood the job before going in. He should have stayed a few more terms in the senate. No expeience he had other than deep within DC politics is going to prepare him for the job. W.Bush grew up in a DC political family and had daddy Bush to refer back to when he got in office, not that it is experience but it is something at least.

As president you can't just go in and do anything you want just because you promised to. I spent many years working at the Pentagon and even at my lowly level it was very hard to get anything accomplished due to all the bureaucracy and red tape. You go in thinking a job is going to be easy then find road blocks at every turn. It is very frustrating. I can't imagine the hoops you have to jump through at the top of the executive branch. It's probably why they always say you can't get anything done in one term, you have to go two and then hope the next guy carrys on to complete what you've started. Unfortuantely government is a very slow process and we live in an instant gratification society.

I had a conversation with Bro yesterday, at lunch, and he and I decided that of McCain, Obama, and Hillary, we'd prefer Hillary! I even said that during the election, that if they'd posted Hillary, I might have swapped to Dem.

How's that for irony! McCain would not have been my first choice, because he's too unstable and unpredictable. He was a Dole and a Kerry, thrown in there just so the losing party would have a candidate on the ballot.

Ever watch WWE wrestling. Sometimes I think that's all our elections are, really, a bunch of pre-Nov hoo-hah, and then they step in the ring, put on a good show, we all clap and yell and cheer, and then the ref hands the belt to the guy the sponsors said hand the belt to.

Has any rookie President gone into the White House with all the answers? Obama did what he needed to do to get elected...he put it all on the line, moreso than McCain did I think. You're right, it really does take two terms to begin for the American people to evaluate whether a President has followed his agenda.

The first term is about change...get the ball rolling on some of those bold campaign promises. The Obama administration probably has always had an 8-year plan, never a 4-year plan. Even if he doesn't get elected, I think he'll establish a clear blueprint for his successor, regardless of party.

I think we have to consider also that Gitmo is a huge issue in other parts of the world (incl. Europe) and I think Obama's desire to do something about it is, in part, a desire to encourage greater cooperation with the United States by other nations.

This could be due to a simple reason, like it’s doable by executive order, whereas something like expanding health cover is not.

How the US treats its prisoners, both from conflict and crime, is a matter that effects all people with a conscience, and all people whose mental facilities include cause and effect.
